Installed in the rear of my 3rd Gen Tacoma. I had to drill some holes to mount the existing screws that hold the bed to the frame if going this route. I've found many guys on the Tacoma forums using this method and I have to say it worked pretty well with a few fakes. I'm sure you could use a different size bolt and nut and put them anywhere, but I love the idea of attaching them to the frame while towing a road bike hundreds of miles. In the attached picture I have zip ties leading to these new D-rings (the unused D-ring near the tailgate is the factory D-ring).
