Review on AOMAG Extremely Powerful Neodymium Cylinder by Cornelius Mosley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

corrosion resistant

Please note this magnet is not 100% neodymium; If that were the case then that volume of metal - if it were 100% neodymium - would have a ridiculous pull force of around 500kg. Fake? - of the minuses of pure neodymium magnets, in my experience: fragility and corrosion. This magnet is not nearly as brittle and is very resistant to corrosion. I think the design is probably a set of 20mm neodymium disc magnets encased in stainless steel. While it's still strong (good for picking up screwdrivers that are out of reach in the engine bay), it's not obscenely-ridiculously strong. The durability department is a small price to pay for durability; I "switched" to "true" (pure) neodymium magnets once and while I was impressed by their strength, the brittleness and corrosion were a real pain, so much so that I have since switched to this magnet . Large enough to grip enough to surpass its still impressive strength, not brittle, very resistant to corrosion - as a workshop tool this magnet is far more practical than most pure neodymium magnets. However, if you only want a maximum magnetic field strength, you should be careful as a buyer. This magnet is clearly not made of 6 cubic inches of pure neodymium - a fact the markings aren't entirely clear about.

Pros
  • Industrial magnets
Cons
  • String shorter than other picks
