Good advice on parts and components

I bought these to replace the flat bar Shimano Tourney derailleur/brake combo on my hybrid because the wide flat bars that factory fitted did not please. To me, this hybrid was like a flat-bar, low-gear road bike, and it would do well with a few drops. I shortened the handlebars, put some screws on the drops and mounted this ST-A070 along with some Tektro linear arms on the flat part of the handlebars for slower traffic situations. Installation was easy, I had trouble adjusting the derailleur but I believe that was due to the stretch of the new cables and my own propriety. (I didn't use the cables that came with the kit, I bought the orange cog cable.) Also, I believe they are for mini v brakes or something like that as the brakes are nowhere near as powerful as the original kit . but i actually like it, they are more forgiving of me, and if i have to do an emergency stop, i won't fly through the grid into orbit. I really like how they feel, it's a comfortable position that I mostly hold my hands in. My bike seems more racing and I've become more confident after modifying it. They are a good product and I would recommend them to anyone looking to add something like this to their bike if they already use Shimano as I'm not sure they will work with things from other manufacturers. The only real complaint I have is that the shifter doesn't give any indication of what gear you're in, it's just an orange pointer. It works and I've started to get used to it, but it's still stupid. The ones I replaced had numbers printed on them.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
