They are quickly released with an ordinary hex key which a thief may or may not have. Security is better than a quick loan spindle but not as good as having your own key. The benefit for me is that I don't have to carry around a heavy proprietary key for maintenance. I already have this allen key in my travel kit for other mounts. The tips are made of very light metal and are small. Not sure how strong they are, but no problems so far. An advantage of the cleat shape is that it fits both of my trainer stands while my quick release does not. This makes setting up an impeller very easy. I also like the fact that the color is black, which matches my other related parts.
