Please read the product description carefully and ignore user comments. The description correctly states that the product is intended to measure the alcohol content of DISTILLED spirits. You CANNOT get an accurate reading from this or any other beer, wine or cider refractometer without first distilling it and then using this device. I tried using this to measure my house wines and they all read too high. It's calibrated and works great with distilled water and all of the commercial spirits I've tried. I came back here to return it and found that it was my fault for not paying enough attention before buying it. I give this 4 stars despite its immaculate job on what it is supposed to measure because the seller is really a bit sloppy. It is "a tool that professional and non-professional winemakers simply cannot do without". I don't know of any amateur winemaker who distills their wine before testing the alcohol content.
