Perfect for my 2002 Explorer. No modifications are necessary, the pin and spring clip fit perfectly. I have chosen not to remove the steering wheel and airbag to avoid any unforeseen risk or consequence. There are two brass bushings in the hole in the steering column that this part fits in (one at each end), I had to take out the bushing closest to the steering wheel and put it onto this new part before putting it in and then pressing the small spring-loaded button on the part to slide it past the steering wheel. It's easier done than explained, but it worked. Having never done this before, it took me about 30 minutes to take the old piece out and 30 minutes to put the new one in. If I did it again it would take half the time. I highly recommend buying the part and gifting it. to attempt.
