The FX 9590 is just an overclocked FX 8350 (for comparison, not literally). This means it's a terrible processor to overclock since it's already overclocked. This series of processors was also known as the "Oven" to the general public and the overclocking community. Thanks to diamond thermal paste, an open housing, a closed water system and extremely powerful Corsair fans, the temperatures are still around 46-50 degrees during normal use (e.g. when watching YouTube videos). During gaming sessions, it climbs to 61 degrees. If you put a heavy load on the CPU, even with a very good closed water cooling system like the Corsair h115i, 70 degrees are immediately reached. This is most likely why the overclocking fails and the PC also freezes when it hits a thermal wall at the exact moment it starts to "stretch its legs", which is similar to the Intel i9 9980XE issue. another oven. The difference between the 9980XE and this one is that the 9980XE has 18 cores while the FX-9590 only has 8. To test the processing power of this processor, I chose to stream with software coding enabled to bypass my GPU. This processor became an instant bottleneck when running at 1080p and 60 fps. On the PC everything stopped and stuttered and the stream was not visible. Like I used a PC again in the 90s. I also tried editing videos but the results weren't very good. I overclocked it to 4.82GHz as it could run at 5GHz at first and then one day it just couldn't go any further and I had to drop it to 4.92 and then 4.82. Trying to render a video is a nightmare, like doing something else while the video is being rendered, the computer freezes and forces you to start the whole process over. Also, rendering the video takes at least twice the length of the video. It took about 20 hours to render the 9 hour video stream which means I couldn't use this computer for 20 hours fearing it would freeze. I disabled the overclock and everything seemed to work fine, I had no freezes when rendering. In terms of gaming combined with a good GPU it performs very well and can handle all games at Ultra 1080p at around 55-60+ fps. depending on the game. If it's not graphics intensive, you're guaranteed 100+ fps. It can even handle 4k optimized for liquid metal very well, making this processor much more efficient. With the Conductonaut I dropped my average temperature from 46-50 degrees Celsius to 29-30 degrees Celsius! Everything is going much smoother and I'll be testing streaming, video playback etc again now that the heat wall seems to have been beaten! With liquid metal I was able to crank it back up to a comfortable 4.92 GHz with a temperature increase of only 6 degrees Celsius with a voltage change from 1.47 to 1.49 volts on the Vcore processor. I've tried increasing the OC to 5.0 but Prime95 fails, although the temperature doesn't get anywhere near 70 degrees Celsius even at 1.53 volts on the CPU. Apparently I just got unlucky in the silicon lottery as cores 1 and 3 fail first which always means they are weak cores. As long as I wasn't doing anything CPU intensive, I was able to run fine at 5.0GHz as it doesn't put as much strain on cores 1 and 3. 5GHz just "couldn't" a few weeks ago. These people must have won the silicon lottery because a lot of people are in the same boat as me. Overall, this is a powerful chip that's inefficient and dissipates heat terribly. I suspect if you use some crazy liquid nitrogen setup you can tame the heat and let this chip perform to its full potential, but for everyone else just stick with the 8350 or upgrade to Ryzen as this 2018 chip shows it can is obsolete and will become a bottleneck for modern GPUs as the hardware associated with it is now far behind. This CPU can run VR when paired with a good GPU like the 980 Ti. If you must rely heavily on the CPU alone, look elsewhere. No wonder this processor earned the nickname "Faildozer".
