Any serious audio enthusiast will tell you that the listening room is just as important as the equipment. Rooms in homes can be optimized, edited, rearranged to make devices sound better, and speakers can be added. The cars aren't great. So I looked for an installer who had some experience with Subaru Foresters and asked them to recommend speakers in my price range. So I settled on these focals, which sound really great in my 2015 Forester. All cars are different. The size and angle of the windshield directly affects the upward-firing tweeters mounted in the dash, as does the amount of glass all around. The loudness of the door cavity, as well as how far forward and how close to the floor the speakers are placed, directly affects bass response and midrange projection. The shape and volume of the car interior, the type of upholstery, the number of passengers. all of this has an effect. How do I know if other speakers would sound better? Without sitting in other rangers with other systems I can't. I know how much better these speakers sound than the factory speakers: the best in the world. The difference between, say, average portable computer speakers and very good hi-fi bookshelf speakers. They are source accurate (as I can verify by playing an excerpt from my own recordings). They don't add any noticeable distortion at normal volume. Their bass extension extends well into the lower octave of a bass guitar or double bass, although it rolls off at the lowest note. But there's no distortion, no false harmonics, no hum. The top end is extended and clean (and therefore will reveal bugs in low bitrate streams and cracks). I don't know the exact crossover frequency, but it's low enough to lift the stereo image off the ground and position it mostly in front of you. The midrange remains balanced and integrated, and it seems like only minor tweaks to my 10-stage EQ were needed to get the right tone. So are these speakers right for you and your car? you can be These are definitely high quality, powerful speakers that have a lot of potential in the right car. They will appeal to the listener who values accuracy and doesn't want speakers to add their own quality to the music. But if you can find an installer with extensive experience on your particular vehicle and get a recommendation, you can benefit.
