It would be ideal if everything in the car was clean and new. However, if you're working with an old machine that has survived many winters with a rust belt, it won't be as nice. It is absolutely impossible for the bushings to simply drag the shafts if there is rust between the shaft and the inner bushing. I had to drill out the rubber and cut the inner sleeve off the shaft. That's what I expected before I bought this tool. After everything was cleaned, the new bushings went in very easily.
