We use MS-16 wireless PIR motion detectors to control the outdoor lighting which is controlled by a wall switch. Since the sensor transmits RF (radio frequency) signals, you MUST have something to convert the RF signals to AC Line X-10 signals that control other X-10 devices. We use this for this purpose and it works great. This is a device type module that uses a relay to turn on and off whatever is connected to it. We don't use an outlet at all, just the X-10 signal it produces when it picks up a wireless signal. However, the relay is quite heavy, which causes it to operate with a rather loud clunk when switched on and off. Since it doesn't matter where you put it, we store it in our laundry room where no noise can be heard.
