Lubricate the tabs before installation.
I used a micrometer to check the size of the mounting ring compared to the old mirror. Very well matched. I used personal lube on the grip tabs to overcome assembly friction. I marked the surface of the mirror (with painter's tape) over the mounting ring so I can see where it's safe to apply pressure so I don't accidentally break the mirror. The mirror snapped into place quickly. This was on a 2001 Silverado 2500.
