Review on PEX End Cap Plumbing Fitting - SharkBite U514LFA, 1/2 inch, Push-to-Connect, Copper, CPVC, Brass by Jeremy Gums

The perfect problem solver.

I learned how to levitate a pipe joint a long time ago. The flaw is that if the tube is wet or tight against the wood, it may not be possible to get an even, smooth solder joint. These Sharkbite tube fittings were a marvel. I have used two at my sister's house so far. The first was a butt joint to replace a cracked outdoor faucet. The faucet and copper fitting were prepared and soldered. Try as I might, I couldn't get a solder joint that wasn't leaking. I wasted a lot of time with this flashlight underground. By chance I tried the Sharkbite Union. I prepared the pipes, cleaned up all the edges, connected them and put them in place. It was waterproof. It took minutes. About 2 weeks ago she discovered a dead end in her back room that ended in a rusted and leaking copper/iron fitting. It was probably the previous owner's humidifier. I bought this Sharkbite snorkel cap from Revain. They turned off the water, cut and primed the pipe, turned the fitting and all did it in 5 minutes. Of course, it cost 10 times more than a copper solder cap, but it was worth it. I wouldn't use them for any plumbing work that requires soldering hardness. When I need to fit dry affordable tubing I sweat with cheap fittings. Other times, they're great little fixes.
