Review on ๐Ÿฟ Hamilton Beach Electric Hot Oil Popcorn Popper, Healthy Snack Maker, Red - Produces 24 Cups (73302) by Sirryan Bloodworth

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The popcorn is always strong and the unit is heavy

I had one of those poppers that had a handle to spin. I really liked it, but the gears wore out after 20 years. I bought another one but it was poorly made, the top didn't fit and even scratched my glass oven so I tried this oil popper. It is very easy to use and cracks a lot of corn with no unbroken kernels and almost no partially cracked kernels - maybe three or four. We used it twice and both times the popcorn was chewy. I love crunchy popcorn that melts in my mouth so I was disappointed. However, the convenience can make up for the durability and I'll try to get it out of the popper as soon as possible. The good thing is that you can store the heating part in the top/bowl so it's not that hard to find a place for it on the shelf. All in all this is a good popper. I just think I'll have to get used to it so we can get the kind of popcorn we like. UPDATE: Changed from four stars to two. After several months of use, it is disposed of. There aren't enough vents to let the steam out. Even if you lift the lid a little to let off more steam, you'll end up with hard popcorn (and risk steam burns). Another problem is that the base is heavy. This makes flipping so the popcorn is on top a bit dangerous, but ripping the bottom off the bowl/top and flipping it right side up again is even worse. The bottom is very hot at this point and the top/bowl is filled with hot steam. I'm not particularly weak, but every time I do it I'm afraid it will slip or I'll drop it. For this reason I reject it and lower my rating. It squeezes out all the corn, but that's the only thing that makes it good.
