I removed my ball head from my existing camera tripod and attached this platform to place my projector on it. The elastic strap that it comes with is supposed to add peace of mind that if anyone walks by the platform and bumps it that it would not move. I'm thinking more of a velcro strap would have been secure as elastic seems a bit too loose for "in place" security. The platform itself is pretty sturdy and serves its purpose. It's just right as far as supporting a projector, but adding heavier items would not be advisable. All in all it is made well and works for family movie night!
