Forget about buying DisplayPort to DVI adapters - buy them. They cost the same as an active adapter and you don't have to deal with old DVI cables. I recently received a CalDigit TB3 docking station for my mobile workstation and it requires active DisplayPort to DVI adapters if you want to use DCI cables. All of the adapters we had were passive, so instead of an active adapter, I recommended buying these active cables. They were fine and the cables were RELIABLE. The connections are good at both ends. If you use older DVI/VGA monitors, you really can't go wrong. My business tends to buy cheap monitors and bad colors drive me crazy. I have "old" LG IPS displays that I'm very happy with, but they don't support native DisplayPort, so these cables solved my problem perfectly. I highly recommend this.
