Review on Efficient And Convenient EV Charging With MUSTART Level 2 Portable Charger (240V, 25Ft Cable, 25Amp) by Dick Grayson

Excellent Upgrade from Level 1 EVSE

I recently bought my first electric vehicle (2019 Nissan Leaf), and I was dismayed at just how slow the Level 1 trickle charger that came with it was (I hadn't done enough research, and the dealership did not exactly advertise it). Despite a very small daily commute, I needed 7 hours of charging each week as a minimum and longer commutes required excessive planning/use of public charges- which are few in my area and about four times the cost. This MUSTART Level 2 40 A charger has been a very happy improvement: I estimate about 3 to 5 times faster charging, requiring less than two hours for my weekly need and the entire battery charged in under 7 hours. The kit included almost everything to mount the device (missing a screws/instructions for the cord coil holder). They include dry-wall screw mounts, but I cannot imagine with the sturdiness of this device that they would hold long term. I mounted everything to a single stud no problem. The connector to the vehicle is a touch tight and sticks a little when connecting/disconnecting; however, I'd personally rather have the connection be too tight than loose. It may loosen over time with use. I like the display which tallies charging time and energy as well informing you of current voltage, current, and power. The counters reset after unplugging so they may not be very useful for long term data. Overall it has been well worth the price.I also liked that there were options for the type of wall connection. I choose the NEMA6-50 since I knew family had that available at their place. I had a NEMA14-50 installed in my garage since it has higher utility having a dedicated neutral (4th pin). These guys clearly do not use a neutral, so I just snagged a converter for $40 and can easily charge from either plug.
