The cap comes unthreaded, but the Zerk fitting is a "self-tapping " fitting.
The ball joint cap has an unthreaded hole. You have to push the zerk down for it to start, then it basically "pushes" down from what I used. You may need to disassemble the mirror mount to fit the socket and then reassemble the mirror.
