Intermittent performance improvements, but no noticeable gain overall. (refurbished device)

I haven't noticed any significant performance improvement. My direct connection and Netgear connection were almost the same. Maybe Netgear has given me a 10% improvement in downloads at times, but not reliably. Most tests, both straight and odd, were on par with 2G. When uploading a number, either my Direct and Netgear both stayed in the kilobit range, not the megabit range. So there are no big improvements. Direct worked from 500 to 800 kbps. Netgear will be more consistently closer to the 800 band, but the direct connection will still be in the high 600-700 kbps. Again, I got maybe a 5% speed boost with 2G. When it came to ping, Netgear was slower or about as long as a direct connection. When it was slow, it was VERY slow. 300ms over Netgear compared to 43ms over a direct connection, again over 2G. Netgear didn't work with 5G. I kept getting error messages like: B. Couldn't get an IP address or just couldn't connect. But with a direct connection I didn't have this problem. In short, maybe a 10% improvement in loading at best. At best, a 5% improvement on loading. In all cases the ping was slower. I would even be happy with 10%/5%, but like I said, that's inconsistent. Sometimes there was an improvement, sometimes no improvement. Your mileage may vary. The truth in the advert for the device I had was a refurbished device. Perhaps it was originally defective and nothing was repaired at the factory.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Annoying
