The area of our house is about 1200 square meters. ft. This is also an energy star house. This heater immediately heats the house on the 3rd floor to 80 degrees. Our heating is set to natural gas. The top is heating up, the photo I posted with the decorations above was BEFORE it was connected to the gas. I don't recommend putting some plastic on it, I'm pretty sure it will melt. The top feels warm/hot depending on the person. My husband says he's warm, I can't hold him for long. (Lack of calluses, maybe?) The flame is blue on the bottom and yellow on the top, not sure if that changes when hooked up to propane. When it is set to 1-2, the flame loses its yellow color and becomes only blue. It's pretty easy to assemble. I only had a small issue with a screw for one of the legs that was removed by the manufacturer. Luckily my husband had one that worked. This sucker is heavy. It comes with rubber feet to protect the floor. You have to stand on your head to set the temperature and turn on the indicator light. Our biggest problem was not being able to light it after bleeding the line. Turns out it was our fault and we didn't make sure it was set for natural gas and not propane. After we changed it, it started flawlessly. I've noticed that if you set it to 3 and up, the flame gradually dies down over time. I'm not sure if this is normal, but it still generates heat and it doesn't matter. Ours stays on setting 2, turning on and off as needed. Anything higher and it won't turn off, not because something's wrong, but because we're going to cook before it gets hot enough to turn off (just kidding). But seriously, this device gets hot. Another small issue not related to the unit was our fire alarm. I think the first few times it was turned on it had to burn everything that was on it. Our smoke alarms sang like crazy, and if one of them goes off, because they're wired together, everyone in every room goes off. Talk about a headache. BUT this is the second day it has been full time and no more smoke detector issues. All in all a great purchase. I definitely recommend this fireplace. It is pleasing to the eye and heats your home effectively.
