Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Bilstein (24-186797) 4600 Series Shock Absorber: Enhanced Performance and Durability by Joe Lara

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Drives decent but noticed squeaks after two months of use

Bilstein used to be famous for its excellent shock absorbers and struts for 4WD vehicles. Apparently, the quality of their products has deteriorated. I replaced my wife's struts with her 2007 Jeep Commander (which at the time had about 100,000 miles on the original struts and leaked one). I have used Bilstein on my jeeps in the past and have always had excellent quality. But as I haven't bought any of these in the last 10 years their quality seems to have deteriorated as evidenced by the two I bought. So in October 2017 I bought a kit and installed it on my wife's jeep along with new Moog upper strut mounting kits (including the upper spring isolator) and also replaced the lower spring isolators. So all new rubber parts together with the original coil spring. It was mostly quiet for the first two months, no noise, then my wife started telling me that while reversing out of our driveway, she noticed a "creak" coming from the front as it rolled over the corrugated edge of the curb in our road turned . So I checked everything under the front (as I also changed all the rubber components on the anti-roll bars and also when I changed the struts along with the new rear shock absorbers) and didn't find anything loose or obvious noise. From that moment until now (two years of use, about 30,000 miles) the struts make noise with every bump in the road. I contacted Bilstein's warranty department tonight to see if they would honor their warranty. I don't bother with the labor as I can make the replacement myself but it is very disappointing for a premium product, formerly known as 'High Quality', which does not live up to its reputation (and my experienced use of its products). became fair products). If Bilstein responds to my warranty request I may change my rating but we'll see what they come up with.

Pros
  • Everything is fine!
Cons
  • Expensive
