Overall this is a fun toy. The software often crashes on Vista, but other than that it's really easy to use with some cool tools! It's a toy - the cheap plastic handle doesn't work smoothly. We had no luck with 200x in combination with scene and lighting. I just don't think there's enough light in there. Everything is fine in manual mode with additional light sources. The optics combined with the focusing issues doesn't make it a great tool for plant cells and the like, but we found some pretty cool bugs that we wouldn't have noticed. seen with the naked eye. (Diagnosing mites in mason bee cocoons etc) I was hoping to use this to do some basic parasite testing (poo floaters) on my animals. At least for something like that, stick to the traditional student framework. We leave it because of the price, it's a fun toy even if we really only use it at 10x and 60x. However, if I had bought it locally I would be more inclined to return it and save up for a better scope (even without a camera). But it all depends on what qualities you need the most. Your own slides and coverslips elsewhere - the dealers found on Revain were kind to us!
