Customer service sucks

Like many others I had a broken microscope and needed help from customer service to fix the problem. They only allow communication via email. It took an average of 5 days to reply to each email. After 4 emails I exhausted their troubleshooting algorithm. Not once have I received anything other than a standard format response. Here is the last email: Hi, Unfortunately it looks like the software/hardware is not compatible with your specific computer model and configuration. We cannot guarantee…

Great toy with restrictions

Overall this is a fun toy. The software often crashes on Vista, but other than that it's really easy to use with some cool tools! It's a toy - the cheap plastic handle doesn't work smoothly. We had no luck with 200x in combination with scene and lighting. I just don't think there's enough light in there. Everything is fine in manual mode with additional light sources. The optics combined with the focusing issues doesn't make it a great tool for plant cells and the like, but we found some pretty

A microscope that gives good results at a relatively low cost

About five years ago I gave our two oldest grandchildren an old version of this microscope. Having recently spoken to their father, I found that they still use it to look at things. My other son's eldest son turned 7 a few days ago. I thought he might like one of the new QX-5 models. When I searched the internet for this model, I found that it is available at a very good price from a company that services the microscope. When I called them they said they were out of stock but gave me the name…

Great teaching tool

I learned about this digital microscope through the Master Gardener program in Marin County, California and I have to say it makes a very interesting addition to my home teaching library. QX5 is very easy to set up and run. It offers the flexibility to view footage on an existing stand or in manual mode. Accurate focusing is a bit difficult to achieve, but overall performance is excellent for the price. It has 10X, 60X and 200X power, so it can be used for many slides. I mainly use it with…

Great hardware, not so good software

Love this microscope! My kids and I have great fun with it. The best part is the ability to take pictures and videos of what you're watching. My son used the photos for his science homework. My only complaint (and the only reason I gave this product 4 stars and not 5) is that the software is buggy. The software interface is friendly and kid-friendly, but one of my computers crashed (blue screen). The microscope would work fine, then out of nowhere the blue screen of death would appear and the…

Difficult installation

I bought it for my daughter as an educational toy. The design is cheap and of very poor quality. It also doesn't have its own power supply and is USB powered. The software is primitive and constantly sets my display to the lowest possible resolution. UPDATE: All the PCs I had problems with were AMD based. I recently received an Intel computer with XP. The Scope installed with no problems and works well. Difficulties could be related to AMD incompatibility. Interestingly, the Win98 box was also…
