Just what I needed for GPS, finder and accessories

Bought this to use with flight navigation software on my windows 8.1 tablet and has worked great so far. Recording time is very short and WAAS is enabled on the chip by default. Note that this doesn't use the Windows 8 Location API, but instead creates a COM port for the app to access location, which shouldn't be a problem for most unless your app is newer and *only* designed to use the Win API eight. . If so, there are various third-party software options I'm aware of that send data to the location API. Also, only 1 application can access a COM port at a time (gpsGate can help here). Sensitivity seems great - I can get a full WAAS signal both in my house and in my car. Haven't tried it on the plane yet, but I have a feeling it will work just as well. On your device, sleep mode may or may not disable port/GPS to save battery power. UPDATE: Used this on an airplane and worked great - actually better than other portable aviation GPS's I own. Accuracy was excellent and I never had any problems with satellite reception and that was when I held the device on my lap where it was a bit low and also couldn't see the sky. It's nice to know I don't have to worry about the antenna being on top of the panel. So far, this little GPS has been very beneficial.
