Review on πŸ”ͺ Discover Exceptional Precision with Freud 8" x 24T Super Dado Sets (SD508) by Justin Sharp

Revainrating 4 out of 5

SD508 s is big - box, not much

Let me start by saying that it is Freud SD508 with 5/8 shaft not with width scale and not with 1 inch shaft unit. It seems some of the reviews are about different sets of Freud's dados. Either they are posted under the wrong product, or all Freud reviews are posted together. Second, when reading reviews, look for ones that say "Verified Purchase." I see many 5 or 1 star reviews with little or no comment, and I believe they were written by the company's advertisers, either for or against the manufacturer. Now for the rating. I was excited to try out my new dado set from Freud so I decided to cut out some dados right away. I'm not a pro and have a Bosch 4100-09 saw with gravity lift stand. While the saw can cut dados, it has a maximum width of 13/16 inches due to the length of its shank. a previous project. The set of tenons cuts off smoothly with little or no resistance. The sides were straight and smooth. The shoulder was perfectly 90 degrees. The floor was fantastic. The bottom was smooth, with no ridge lines between the blades or fenders. My previous groove kit always left a burr or burrs on the underside that I had to grind or sand down. I've tried several different widths, both with and without spacers. All cuts turned out great. The only fault I can think of is the box and its inner plastic lining. While the box looks solid and thick, it's actually flimsy, and considering the weight of the slot set, I find it flimsy. Inside, the red plastic lining is also thin and thin. Red plastic is thin, crumpled plastic used for packaging, not the standard heavy plastic used for storage and reuse. The plastic between the blades and shredders is the same thin packaging plastic. (It reminds me of the plastic trays that cheap Christmas decorations come in.) The liner is so fragile that both blades and three shredders came out of the storage slot during shipping and ended up on top or on the plastic liner when I first opened it Tray. Furnished. To protect my set I plan to make a wooden insert and find some heavier duty plastic or rubber sheet/shredder dividers for storage. Overall, I like the Dado Freud SD508 set. He cuts beautiful dados. However, for the price I think it should come with larger storage because although carbide is tough, banging carbide on carbide is an easy way to damage teeth. Great dado, need a better storage box.
