Not quite 8 inches - not recommended for Sawstop.

I bought this notch set with the impression that it met the criteria for use with a Sawstop table saw. 8" standard steel toothing with a series of grooves. It has no one-piece plate grinders, form heads and no oscillating blade. As it turns out, the actual diameter of the saw blade is 8 3/16" and the saw stop brake does not adjust far enough, to be able to be used. Also, the shredders are too heavy, and Sawstop says applying the brake while the saw blade is in use could damage the saw. I…

Still not improved?

January 2020, just ordered/received my Freud SD508 Dado kit. I saw reviews from 2015 complaining about this case. Am I wrong in assuming that Freud has already solved this problem? Surely you understand that first impressions matter, not to mention that I clean the TV every time? I have an older set from 10 years ago with a fantastic body/design and I see it still being used in cheaper TVs? Why tie me to this ridiculous and useless case to remind me every time how stupid this company was to put

5 star price, 4 star cut

Aside from the terrible packaging that others have repeatedly mentioned, I was expecting a decent 5-star option at a premium price. I use a 6" Oshlun Dado blade set and they work pretty well. With only the slightest discernible difference between the cuts of each blade. I wanted an even smoother finished cut when I had to upgrade to an 8" set. so I looked at Freud and just proceeded with branding the name. Long story short, the packaging was truly awful, torn on arrival (seriously, Freud?) and…

Great blade set, terrible storage case

This is the best blade set I've ever used and the micro adjustment is way better than any shims between blades for precision work. I use my dado almost every day so I bought a second one to take turns sharpening while the other sharpens. Unfortunately the storage box is junk. They stuffed the thinnest cheap plastic they could find into the case to protect a $200+ set of blades. I paid $280 for my original many years ago and got a cheaper backup now. However, if the sheathing designed to protect

You get what you pay for

Updating my review and rating after additional use to downgrade one star. The 1/16 chopper in my stack is 1/16 shorter than the other choppers, so cuts made with this chopper will be uneven and require cleaning. Freud did not respond to any of my service requests. My first impression is that this dado stack is great. Worth every penny. This leaves a ready-to-stick surface for many of the knife/shredder/splitter configurations you'll be using without much cleaning. However the 1/16 chopper is…

Great DADO set!

The first thing I like: Very solid set. Insanely sharp and terrifying to use for the first few times. The cuts are incredibly clean and perfect. Cuts better than my router. Upon research, all reviews say that DADO kits may not cut as cleanly as a router. I found the other side. I even used a brand new bit in my router. The set arrived undamaged and within the specified time frame. I am very very happy with this purchase and now I understand why it costs so much. While it costs a little, I'm a…

Premium Groove Set - Power Tool Parts & Accessories

I usually use a grooving cutter but there are some uses such as: B. Lap joints best done with a grooving head. The Freud 508 set is cheaper than Forrest's Dado King but got a good review from Fine Woodworking so I ordered it. It's been a few years since I've used a dado set and now I know why - setting it up is a little tedious. But. I once tried to make a lap joint on a router and had to interrupt the work by going to the emergency room to get a few stitches. To reacquaint myself with the dado

SD508 s is big - box, not much

Let me start by saying that it is Freud SD508 with 5/8 shaft not with width scale and not with 1 inch shaft unit. It seems some of the reviews are about different sets of Freud's dados. Either they are posted under the wrong product, or all Freud reviews are posted together. Second, when reading reviews, look for ones that say "Verified Purchase." I see many 5 or 1 star reviews with little or no comment, and I believe they were written by the company's advertisers, either for or against the…
