This overview assumes you understand the basic purpose of a blast gate. To reduce costs I started with 4 plastic grids in my shop. The plastic gates worked great. until they became clogged with sawdust and could no longer close completely. THAT is the main problem with plastic blast gates. Since they are self-contained, there is no way to clean up the junk. Their design takes up a little more vertical space. However, this is necessary so that the damper can throw sawdust out of the gate. Losing some suction power with the self-cleaning design? Yes. But it's a better alternative than constantly cleaning (and breaking) plastic gates. I would like the flange to be a bit longer to ensure a good connection. Tip: If the flange is too narrow to attach to the pipe, wrap it with tape. around it to expand it. Saves you time and money for the connection.
