Review on Scosche FD6200B Double DIN Dash Kit - Compatible with 2012-Up Ford Focus, Non-Nav Models (Black) by Tim Burns

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Overall good but has issues (used with Apline ILX-W6500)

TL:DR: Yes it can work with Alpine ILX-W650 but you need to do a little more work or compromise. The end product is not 100% perfect but very close and is the best option available in my opinion. In the end I'm happy with it. I hope this saves someone the anger, confusion, and frustration I've been experiencing! Picked this up for my Focus to use with an Alpine ILX-W650. The Metra kit was recommended to me, but I'm glad I researched and found it because it looks so much better and doesn't have any annoying bright lights, stupid buttons or anything. The installation was not without problems. After spending several hours hooking up the stereo to the parking brake (don't do that! Buy a 100% bypass and save yourself hours) and finally doing all the work behind the scenes, I assembled it, excited that see project. it all came together only to be utterly disappointed when I finally found a mount combo that worked because it looked silly as hell with a huge gap at the bottom exposing tangled wires. That was after trying all possible combinations of holes. I was very upset and seriously considered taking it all out and putting it back in because what good is a good stereo if it looks awful on the dash? I came here to ask what holes people used to get this to work or if I needed to drill new ones. The manufacturer and another person replied that no additional holes needed to be drilled, but this turned out to be only partial. That's how I understood it. Holes just don't fit THIS STEREO Alpine ILX-W650. I've found that by using specific top holes that don't have a bottom hole in the bracket that matches my stereo (see pics) I can get a pretty good fit, maybe as good as possible. In fact, the only option was to use them and drill new bottom holes. I took some measurements and messed with the brackets (as seen in the photos) but after a while I just wasn't getting anywhere as I didn't have the right drill bits or time to do the job. Instead, I decided to just tighten the top screws very hard and put an end to that. I haven't had any issues so far and have even tried pushing harder than ever on the bottom of the stereo and it won't budge. I think that's actually partly because the bottom edge of the stereo sits slightly against the surface of the dashboard below the screen. So I'm finally done and everything is working and I'm happy although it's not 100% perfect. There is now a very small gap at the top of the stereo which I have tried to capture in my photos. It's not overly distracting as you can't see any wires or anything, but in the right light the metal brackets' mounting flange is easily visible. So if you have a problem I would suggest covering them with black electrocoating. tape before installing and this should fix it. Otherwise, I'm not sure if I want to fill this gap and how. Maybe I'll come up with something over time, but like I said, I'm satisfied and overall happy with the end product. The wheels rub against the edge of the contour (the sound/feel isn't necessarily objectionable, and even sounds like it might sound/feel like it, but it's still a design flaw), and the small 4" screen adapter fell out, when installed (carefully superglue on the back, works great). That's why I give 3 instead of 4 stars; looks good at the end of the day but many small improvements could be made.
