Review on πŸ”§ Starrett 3020-6: Toolmakers' Grade Stainless Steel Square Review by Randy Butler

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Smart, well made, inexpensive.

This square is well made, affordable and highly accurate. This tool was the perfect choice for me as I didn't want to spend more than $300 for a US made reference square, but I didn't trust any of the imported squares as a reference square. I've found that many of the old US tool companies now offer imported angles. However, the ones I've seen are nothing more than an expensive way to buy the same cheap tools that "some freight company near the port" offers. This Starrett place is completely different. . It's precise and the fit and finish is impeccable. Unlike the picture, it is laser engraved with the words "#3020-6 Starrett 6 Stainless Steel." It has a REAL hinge with a metal hinge pin. This makes the case perform as it should opens easily, lays flat and lasts forever It's a nice change from the typical plastic case with a thin plastic 'living hinge' that is stiff, always in the half-open/half-closed position Needs to "jump" position and over time .finicky breaks with my tools but I'm really happy with it. I would buy this again.

Pros
  • Perpendicularity to 0.0002 inch/0.005mm
Cons
  • Medium
