Works if hammered early

In short I'm glad I bought this, I only used it again 2 days ago. Would buy again. I almost returned it after buying it. I ordered it in hopes of using it on a clog that seemed to be forming (I can hear a gurgle in the sewer pipes if this becomes a problem in the near future). But the blockade had completed its formation before it arrived. I tried to use it anyway (it arrived in the morning when the water had completely stopped flowing), hoping not to go out and rent a heavy (80lbs?) 100ft corded sewer cleaner and a friendly one Find soul to help me take him down the stairs to the basement, clean the drains and go back up the stairs. And of course loading and unloading the car. Twice. It didn't work and I almost got it back. But I felt it was an unfair test as the blockage was far away by that point (the water wasn't moving at all). So I kept it. The next time I heard a gurgling sound, I was in the middle of a repair, replacing the wax ring on the toilet. I figured as long as I could have direct access to a sewer line this way I'd give this sewer pole a try and see if I could avoid renting this huge behemoth. blockages usually occur. It took me a while to get over the blockage and at first I didn't think it would work. But eventually I finally heard the wonderful sounds of bubbles as the blockage broke. The first hit took maybe an hour or two. With subsequent use, I attacked the blockage as soon as I heard any sign of a problem. . With this approach, last time I spent more time setting up and cleaning up the workspace than doing the actual work. It went in, met a little resistance, maybe for a few minutes, and then ended. I kept walking just to make sure there was nothing left, but I never met much resistance. Top Tips: - Proceed at the first sign of a problem - this works well for small clogs, not big ones - If you go straight through the toilet drain like me, keep a rag over the hole while you work with it - if that Handle slips into hole, it may jam (this has happened to me - I was able to slip a hanger under the handle to "squeeze" the handle, which was enough to wedge it) - Handle is uncomfortable - wear well-lined ones Work gloves and that's good - dry immediately after use and lubricate lightly with oil, otherwise it will quickly show rust spots. I've successfully cleared this thing 3 or 4 times now and haven't had to rent a hippo since. I used a "wax free wax ring" on the toilet so I could lift it off the floor without damaging the ring and I continue to do this rather than accessing the basement to clean.
