What a versatile tool!

I've never used tools like this but they seem to work great! I figured this would only work on clear liquids. It turns out it works on milk and fruit "pulp" samples too. This is perfect for what I wanted to use it for. You won't need more than 1/4 mashed blueberries to get a reading. The reading (the line between the "white area" and the "blue area") is very discrete (or at least very easy to interpolate where the "line" would be within 1 degree Brix). Not only that, the instrument also appears to be insensitive to the position of the clear lid โ€” in other words, if your sample of a tiny chunk of blueberry pulp contains a seed or two that will prevent the lid from aligning perfectly with the prism that der Reading remains the same even if you "shake" the lid forwards or backwards over the seeds between them. The only thing he couldn't do (because it's only up to 30 degrees) is to report the sugar content of honey - it's over 30. I highly recommend this device. Easy to use.
