This code reader replaces the old one. My old code reader could not be updated. I bought a new car and my old code reader didn't work. It has free lifetime updates. This code reader has many features (too many to list here). Besides reading trouble codes, it can also clear trouble codes. One of the features I like is the LED light on the connector that plugs into your vehicle. You don't need a flashlight if you're looking for an under-dash connector port.
