To repair a '01 CLK-320 trunk lock

TL;DR This lock and a little ingenuity can solve an expensive problem for less than $20. Abuse. The car is a gem, runs great, no problems with the engine (they didn't really understand what they had) and although the asking price was incredibly low, the poor thing has some small (but expensive) cosmetic issues. The previous owners eventually experienced a dead battery (the battery is in the trunk), lost the emergency key (blade) and decided to pry the trunk lock with a screwdriver rather than call a locksmith or buy another knife from the dealer. . This needed to be fixed so the contents of my trunk (and battery) weren't stolen while I was at work. But while I need the trunk to be safe, I can't immediately afford $500 on dealer-only parts, so I had to improvise. just like me (or in general). The bottom line is, I bent the pin on this lock barrel so I could connect it to what's left of the latch mechanism in the CLK trunk. So turning the key in the lock unlocks it. trunk. It won't impress anyone or win contests, it's not 100% theft proof but it will work until I can afford spares. Never listen to someone who tells you that "genuine parts are essential", you don't need such negativity in life.
