It has real "blades" on the bottom, unlike my old one which didn't have the beveled cutting edges at all. Every apple corer just cuts straight like the apple they're working on, but I discovered something today: Usually the top of the apple is a little more symmetrical than the bottom. So, place the apple upside down on a cutting board and cut off the top (this is now the "bottom" of the apple). I get much better results this way. Also, since they generally don't cut through the skin all the way through, it's safer to pull the apple through the tool rather than trying to push the slices through the soil where the blades are.
