I have seen some reviews that the kettle does not whistle and others claim that it does. Given the price, I decided to take a risk. It whistled the very first time we used it and never whistled after that. It's hard to determine why. It is possible that the plastic is bent after the initial heating, causing the whistle to become misaligned. (?) Positives: I like the finish of the kettle inside and out and was willing to ignore the fact that it stopped whistling. However we have a very busy household and one day I forgot my water was boiling and the water over boiled to no avail and part of the trimmings melted on the kettle. Luckily we caught him before something tragic happened. Partly my fault for not keeping an eye on him, but a whistle would have helped. Perhaps there are good ones who happily whistle all their lives. Mine just didn't.
