I've been lucky. on electric fuel pumps

I had a fuel pump replaced at the shop 18 months ago. It took a LOT to work, but sometimes you just have to accept it and move on. After that I smelled gas but couldn't find anything so I wrote it down to "I'm sleeping". /12mpg Finally I pulled up in front of my house, went out to open the gate and there was a smell of gasoline. I grabbed a flashlight, looked under the truck, ENGINE RUNS, and saw a thin mist of fuel spraying from the top of the fuel tank where the pump is located. HOLY EXPLOSIVE! The shop did a lousy job installing the new fuel pump, not fitting it properly with the retaining ring and also cracking the plastic outlet which they had hidden by applying a huge glob of silicone sealant around the crack. at the fuel line outlet and around the retaining ring - saves them the expense of another pump and pushes this little problem out the door (workshop time is money) and onto my naive, clueless knees. City traffic, school zones, lumber yards, past shops, through CBP/ICE controls - the places everyone drives through or where they drive. By the grace of God no one was hurt and I never blew up around town or on the road despite being a mobile fuel/air MOABI, checking for a leak multiple times, crawling under my truck with a flashlight and tracing the fuel line to the Injection system without SUCCESS for two reasons. #2) There is a "cover" (?) surrounding and protecting the tank so I couldn't see any signs of a leak. #1) I have never checked for a leak with the engine running or with the ignition key on to drive the fuel pump. I am a carpenter. It never crossed my mind that the system was under pressure - until I saw this spray and realized I was one of the lucky SoBs - no wonder I never won a Powerball! don't rush into a fireball like the Apollo 1BTW - the Revain was the best value for money.
