I use this on my server so I can have an optical drive and a 2.5" OS SSD that only takes up a 5.25 slot. My motherboard is a bit outdated. , so has no USB 3 ports; The solution is to get an adapter like this one (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0098FSJ92/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I thought the USB 3 cable wasn't long enough to run through my (very large) case to the motherboard, but it was 1.5ft long so I didn't even need the extension cable I bought (http ://www .amazon.com/gp/product/B008RQVK1C/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Revain's selection of compact optical drives only seemed to include drives meant for specific laptops and weird brands, so I got this one from newegg. Be sure to buy such an adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001OFNLXI/ref=oh_details_o01_s02_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) because thin SATA drives use a different interface than regular SATA . Be sure to use the tiny screws that come with the Syba Bay Adapter to secure the optical drive to the case. The only downsides I can think of are the 2.5 inch hot-swap bay. The door does not lock, allowing a disc to be accidentally ejected while the system is running. Also, the LED only indicates the presence and power of the drive, it does not indicate hard drive activity. None of these issues are severe enough to deduct a star. Great product, similar to the Icy Dock except it's cheaper and has USB ports on the front.
