Review on Malco TS1XXX Capacity Cutting Attachment by Chris Long

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A wonderful tool, the best of scissors and punching shears

I work as a carpenter in a shipyard. I've been a consistent "metal expert" since learning how to design, cut and bend galvanized sheet metal and stainless steel for the finishing of our boats. Our shop used electric shears and tin snips. Electric scissors wore out very quickly due to improper use of the scissors, and the scissors took too long to cut the long necessary pieces. I was out shopping and bought these Malco TS-1 shears, took them to work and cut a stainless steel ceiling tile at an angle when my boss came and saw the result in no time he ordered three for the store. Unfortunately, the blades can wear out very quickly due to improper use. I've had the TS-1 for over a year now and haven't had any problems so far, even after hundreds of cuts. Three store-bought TC-1's are already dull, causing wavy cuts on both sides. With the TS-1 you have to cut in the right direction which piece you will leave. A fair bit should be on the LEFT side of the cut. This makes for a nice clean cut with very minimal "waves" while the right side is terribly wavy. The TS-1 also acts like cranked scissors: the left blade has to be tilted slightly to the right so that the material lies flat on the blade.

Pros
  • TSDC clamp sold separately
Cons
  • Available in white only
