Review on ๐ŸŽฃ Venterior Portable Fish Finder: Sonar Transducer, LCD Display, Water Resistant Bag - Perfect for Anglers (Yellow) by Ryan Thrasher

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice toy but can't keep up with big boys

This is VT-FF001 with waterproof bag. I'm not overly impressed with this fish finder, but at $40 it's not entirely fair to compare it to a more expensive fish finder. I tried using it from the shore in several ponds and from the jetty at the lake but couldn't. didn't get him to get a reading because all of those areas were less than 3 feet deep. I was able to get it working on a rented boat using a Hummingbird Helix sonar. While this ventior went crazy, squeaked like crazy and showed a lot of fish, the hummingbird only showed a lot of weeds and no fish. I know it's not fair to compare this to something that costs 10 times more, but I was hoping it wouldn't make that much of a difference. Row boat or ice fishing but it doesn't work from shore and I wouldn't recommend using it in areas with a lot of weed. When using from the bank you must be more than 3 feet in the water and the transducer is too heavy to cast with a regular rod. In addition, the cable sinks slightly and pulls the sensor towards itself. Although the float kit is mentioned in the owner's manual, I couldn't find it on either the Revain website or the Ventior website. This kit includes a waterproof case for the display, but that only makes it splashproof as the cord prevents the case from being waterproof and could damage the device if submerged in water. I'd rather the display itself was waterproof than using a case. The display itself comes with a lanyard, but it's very small and difficult to put upside down. In general, I did not find this sonar. very helpful. Even though it is cheap, it cannot compete with more expensive devices.
