If you've never sharpened knives before, it takes a little frustrating practice to get a feel for how it works , but it's nice to learn how quickly it works. I bought a double sided stone from Arkansas to pair with this one. Honestly, you could just get this rock because it's so cheap, sharpen a lot of knives (it takes practice), and then decide where to go next. It makes the knife sharp enough for almost anything you need.
