Review on Tyger Auto TG RK4B102B Receiver Protector by Derrick Milkie

Great porter except when hauling your bikes down the street.

Stand swivels in two places. The top fork folds down for storage and the entire rack pivots away from the car so you can open the tailgate. Both attach with a long bolt (with a large plastic handle) that threads into a nylon-inserted nut. No clips or pins. On the way back from vacation the bottom bolt vibrated and the trunk tipped over and started dragging our bikes down the road. The tip stop really limited his fall to the point that it only destroyed the front wheels on two of our bikes. The other two (kids bikes) were too small to reach the ground. In addition to a $200+ repair bill, this caused STRONG emotional distress as we were in the middle of the bridge when it happened and we couldn't stop. Besides that, Mrs. Lincoln, how's the game going? I am actually very happy with this item. I will continue to use it but I will make sure these screws are secured. It's actually pretty easy (and I did it for the rest of our trip home). There are holes in the handles and I just put zip ties through those holes and around the case to keep the handles from rotating. I think hanging wire would work too. If you buy (or own) this rack, I would STRONGLY recommend you do something similar. I will also say that we used the straps provided and despite all this abuse everything stayed firmly attached to the post and the post itself looks intact.

Pros
  • Robust and comfortable design for 4 bikes. Lightweight ratchet buckles. Includes TYGER cable lock, tow bar lock and seat belt. OE standard black electrocoat to protect against rust.
Cons
  • Big and chunky
