More of a gimmick than a feature. Works best with small open metal handles.
The best description is silicone lid retainer. They work on lids and open metal handles that are small. I wouldn't compare it to mittens or pot holders as the depth and size doesn't allow for something large and heavy to be securely held. They aren't large enough to protect hands with large pens, metal, or other materials, and the grip isn't as strong or as secure as other tools for this purpose. But for a light and small size and as a fun novelty gift, they fit the bill.
