I needed to fix a broken outlet. The switches were not swapped. Electricity in the house around the socket remained intact. I used this voltage tester to determine if the outlet plugs are dead. I was then able to check the wires feeding the outlet and see that there is power. Just had to change the outlet and. voila!. The outlet has been restored.
