Review on πŸ”¨ OWDEN Leather Carving Hammer - Professional Leathercraft Tool with Nylon Head and Leather Grip Handle (Sizes: Large or Small, 1.2 LB) by Jessica Lewis

It looked great at first but after minimal use the tip is crooked and won't hit properly

Update: Unfortunately, after only two weeks of light to moderate use, the top is now crooked and the hammer does not hit it evenly. Screw was not tightened. Initially I was very happy with this product but it doesn't seem to be very durable unless I come across a broken one. I'll be returning it and maybe trying a larger size, if this one doesn't work I'll probably just have to give up and end up with Barry King, which is a shame because it initially seemed pretty good and a solid piece of everything I was into put in a few rivets and light stamps before it started to loosen at the top. I've added photos to compare when it was new and how the upper no longer sits flush with the nylon. All the time when not in use it has been stored in a bag and box in my leather drawers so there is no chance it would have warped from extremes of temperature or humidity. Very disappointed. This is a wonderful tool, I'm so glad I finally bought a good hammer! Like many people, I started with a cheap blade that cost me less than $10. I knew it was time for a refresher as I got back into serious leatherworking and my old man could barely straighten the little rivet as the head wobbled and it was unevenly worn with dents on either side. I needed something good that was mid-range priced at over twice the price of a Barry King tool. After extensive research and review of this tool, it was a perfect fit in every way. The velvet pouch in the box was a nice touch, the lovely packaging would make a great gift for those just starting out with leather goods or for the more experienced who just need a good hammer. I chose the small size because I'm a woman with small hands, I wear XS with gloves and most tools, often designed more for men, are too big for me to use effectively. The weight and size are perfect, its size is also ideal for children who are just starting out in leathercraft. Take my advice and don't waste your time on something cheaper, you'll be glad you saved yourself the trouble and frustration of doing something less that just doesn't work as well. .
