I recently bought a computer flash drive that I plug into my TV and am trying to play some old DVDs I had at home. A computer flash drive has nothing but an HDMI port, power, and a USB input. This external DVD drive works great with a flash drive. I could play DVDs perfectly on my 50th TV. There were some setup issues. If your USB PC doesn't have enough output power, the drive will have problems. For example, hang and unmount, randomly remount on PC. To solve this problem, I use a micro USB cable connected to the old phone's power bank as an external power supply to provide enough driving power to spin the hard drive. In addition, to play the DVD, you need to download software like VLC player.
