Good support for USB-C and legacy devices

I previously bought an external DVD drive that came with a USB cable. But with my new MacBook, which only has USB-C, it was priceless. If you must use classic USB connectors, there is an option for that. The cable has a convenient compact storage space under the CD drive for easy storage. especially when travelling. The only thing I didn't like about this drive was the fact that there was an obscene red mark on the front of the case. WHY? It's not needed and makes it absolutely ugly! Looks…

Great for DVD playback

I recently bought a computer flash drive that I plug into my TV and am trying to play some old DVDs I had at home. A computer flash drive has nothing but an HDMI port, power, and a USB input. This external DVD drive works great with a flash drive. I could play DVDs perfectly on my 50th TV. There were some setup issues. If your USB PC doesn't have enough output power, the drive will have problems. For example, hang and unmount, randomly remount on PC. To solve this problem, I use a micro USB…

Exactly as advertised. Plugged in and everything worked.

When computers were first sold without internal CD/DVD drives I was very skeptical. I have hundreds if not thousands of discs that I've purchased over the years, ranging from music and software to home videos that I've burned from video tapes. Every year more and more computers are sold without built-in drives. That scared me a little. I very rarely need a CD drive, but when I do, getting an old computer, updating and fixing problems, just copying data from a CD to a flash drive is very…

Cheap drive that works but may need extra power

I needed an external CD/DVD drive to use with a Raspberry Pi 4 to try and get some old games running with Wine and BoX86. Some work, some don't. Don't get me started on wine. Anyway, the packaging is just a regular little box with a disc wrapped in bubble wrap. I would say it was packaged well, but when I took the disc out of the box I noticed something inside was rattling. After opening the shell and shaking, a tiny steel screw can be felt! Oops! Luckily this didn't seem to matter too much as…

Lightweight and compact - the cable is neatly tucked away

This solves a problem I didn't even think existed, but newer laptops, mostly ultrabooks, don't have an optical drive as most software is downloaded and activated online can be. This year my wife and I got new Yoga laptops and our old Dells are now sitting in the closet with their DVD drives. Although we don't normally use CDs/DVDs anymore, I have a lot of leftovers from my life, music I might want to copy to mp3s, old home videos, my college projects and family photo shoots. Yes, cloud storage,

Good for burning DVDs and CDs

This is a great USB CD/DVD drive as new PCs and laptops no longer come with CD/DVD drives. I edit a lot of video for events so I need a DVD burner and that helps. After unpacking the disc, this product is quite light which makes it easy for me to carry it around. It's definitely a portable size, not something I could just slip into my slim laptop bag, but something that fits in my backpack. This DVD drive is retractable, which worries me about constant opening and closing, but so far we haven't
