Bought this to replace a similar one I've had for 25 years. This is a great device if you know what you're getting. Corporate marketing departments are not shy about promoting their products, and Chef's Choice is no exception. If you're stupid enough to think that this device will give you better results than a professional sharpener or half an hour's work with a whetstone, then shame on you. However, if you're looking for something that will give you a huge advantage in less than a minute, then this is your solution. After using it to sharpen my carving knife, I was able to cut a turkey leg from the carcass with little effort and cutting open in the kitchen is a breeze. It is the same with our hunting knives. Of course I had sharper edges, but not as easily as here. But to get a great benefit, you MUST read the directions carefully and follow them closely. If you don't use the right amount of pressure or pull too fast, you won't get good benefit. This is especially true when it comes to checking for burrs after step 2. This is a great device and I hope it lasts me another 25 years.
