Problem: My old trusty dumb interface doesn't work with any serial to usb adapter and only on a windows xp serial laptop that barely turns on. Two different chipset cables, numerous driver combinations and no dice on Win7 or 10. I decided to give it a try. Based on other reviews I didn't use the disc that came with it. Here's what worked in layman's terms: * Windows 7 x64 * Latest VCDS running in XP SP3 compatibility mode * Com port in Device Manager matching COM port in VCDS * Drivers from original cable chipset manufacturer (wch-ic). Filename: CH341SER.ZIP* Cable connected to car and car running (no fiddling with communications settings etc.) Now I can see if my car passes emissions before I get to the test center. *Brilliant*
