Review on ๐Ÿป Thermal Grizzly Carbonaut 5102 by Keith Aluguvelli

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Factory: Radiator

I've been struggling with overheating issues on my MSI GV62 laptop since Christmas. It throttles quite heavily, mostly hitting the high 90s under load. I've used NT-H1, Arctic Silver 5, and MX-4 pastes and haven't noticed much of a difference. Then I saw this Thermal Grizzly on YouTube a few months before it was released, "reusable" gasket instead of paste? No way. However, after looking around a bit I couldn't find where to buy it, but I did find the Innovation Cooling Graphite Thermal Pad. I went ahead and bought this and surprisingly saw little difference between the pad and the paste above. So I've been using it for a few months. Then I finally found this at Revain and as the specs show better I wanted to compare it to the IC counterpart. Carbonauts tend to come out based on size designed for specific processors and they are all designed for desktop while I am working on a laptop so none of the sizes will fit but you can scale them down to what you need (even if it is written on it). the supplied paper). So I bought this 38x38 size as it was the largest I've seen and I wanted to try different things. In short: the performance of this pad was slightly lower or identical to the IC pad. IC Pad for corresponding sizes is currently cheaper than Carbonaut. Also, the Carbonaut feels more like cloth than the IC pad, making it a bit more difficult to trim (generally use scissors instead of a knife/X-Acto, which works great with the IC pad). And finally, after installing and removing the pad multiple times, the pad "stuck" to the CPU and GPU, and upon removal it was ripped/torn or falling apart, which is a problem I *never* had with the IC pad. You'll see the same issues in reviews of other Carbonaut greats on Revain. Let's just say it's good that I had more. Basically, if you're not overclocking, I recommend using pads instead of paste, as they get about the same performance as plain pastes in the mid-high range and require less work. and less messy. However, the IC Graphite rubbers are better than the Grizzly Carbonaut in every respect and are cheaper to load.
