Review on Dorman 905-102: Upgraded Automatic Transmission Shift Tube for Ford/Lincoln/Mercury Models by James Salem

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Started to fail after just a few months, broke after just over 2 years.

***UPDATE 6/27/21***Pipe in steering column completely broken in half. Almost left me stranded and without a day's work. I managed to get home in 2nd gear but now it doesn't work at all. I can't even start the car. It began to fail after just a few months and failed completely exactly three years after installation. The truck was not used at all for at least eight months during that period, allowing it to run for just over two years of normal use before suffering a catastrophic, unreasonable breakdown. I think I was wrong about the comparison quality. There is no other option but to buy it again as this part is urgently needed and Revain guarantee delivery by 8am but I am very disappointed in the quality of this part from Ford and Dorman given the cost of the 4x4 F250. in 2002. ***Fits directly to my F250 250. Ford's notoriously sloppy shifter has been restored to factory smoothness. My 16 year old truck now shifts like new, the turn signals work correctly and I no longer have problems parking or starting while parked. This is a Chinese part but there is no reason to overpay for a genuine Ford part as they are used to using materials and parts that are as cheap as anything you can find overseas. I highly recommend replacing the cheap aluminum factory mounts with Dorman steel mounts. The factory brackets are so cheap that one of mine was completely broken in half when I finally looked inside, making it obvious why my shifter was so sloppy and naughty. Dorman mounts also come with a spare set of plastic bushings. They're a bit overpriced for what they are, but worth the upgrade, especially if you don't plan to fix it again in a few years.

Pros
  • Tools and equipment
Cons
  • No work
