Review on Bosch Inch Angle Grinder GWS8 45 by David Plunkett

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Not like before.

I bought two in September 2019 to add to my two old Bosch 1380 Slim grinders. Within a year, in June 2020, one of the bottom bracket bearings on the GWS8-45 motor failed, prompting me to send it in for repair. It was working again, but by November 2020, just a few months after the overhaul, it AND the second GWS8-45 had died again. The new brushes didn't solve the problem and I don't even want to open them because I've completely lost faith in the model. The model is so similar to the old trusty 1380 Slim that I assumed only the model number had changed. but it's definitely NOT the same mode. The two older 1380 Slim models still perform like champs after years of heavy use and will apparently use the new brush set from time to time. If I can't find the 1380 Slim model anymore, I will unfortunately look around for other brands, because this GWS8-45 model is not intended for intensive professional use as it used to be. It's been a little over a year since I bought it and now I have two useless grinders. I cannot offer a model that may not last a full year and will definitely need to be replaced a year after purchase.

Pros
  • grinders
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
